We asked our client Armond Boshoff, CEO at Atterbury Properties a couple of questions.
Armond, a Technical Member of the Actuarial Society of South Africa (TASSA), obtained his B.Sc Actuarial- and Financial Mathematics qualification from the University of Pretoria and went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Cum Laude) from the University of Oxford.
Here’s what he had to say:
-What did you buy with your first pay-check?
This was a very long time ago – 2008. If I remember correctly, I bought a couple of Exxaro shares. I worked in Mining Finance then and thought it was a good buy. Luckily, I made a small profit 😊.
-If you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
Probably something sport related – Professional golfer (probably not a good one though)
-What financial tip would you give to your younger self?
Enjoy your money more… Sounds counter intuitive, but let me explain – Invest your money wisely, but also reward yourself for being disciplined. Otherwise, saving will always have negative meaning.
-If you win the lotto, what will be the first thing you do with the money?
Probably buy myself a house in Glentana… then save some, then give to family and friends and then have an epic trip somewhere (and then I think my money would be finished).
-Best book you’ve read?
Business – The Outsiders. Fiction – Koors (Deon Meyer)
-What’s more Important in your opinion, Street smart vs Book smart
-What’s the best thing about South Africa?
The diverse beauty (bush, sea and dessert) and the weather.
-What is the one characteristic one needs to be successful?
